Pre-K - Grade 8

Primary Math Pre-K through Grade 2

Features | Pre-K & Kindergarten | Grade 1 and Grade 2

Manipulatives.  Every lesson begins with  manipulative activities to develop understanding of concepts at the concrete level.  The research of Jean Piaget and other early childhood studies form the basis of the program.

Practice and Games.  Interactive practice, including reviews and games, ensures that students learn the skills necessary for future success.  Students learn strategies to help remember basic facts.

Children's Stories.  Over 200 stories with activities are recommended to introduce or extend lessons.  Stories build the critical math-language connection and make math imaginative and fun.  Most of the stories are available at the library.

Connections.  Interdisciplinary math activities extend into other subject areas - science, music, computer, literature, art and the real world.  Exemplary software programs are recommended.

Problem Solving.  Students learn to solve real world problems using a systematic five-step plan.  Lesson plans use strategies such as act it out, use a model and draw a picture to help students decide how to solve the problem.

Assessment Options.  Assessment options include traditional tests with paper and pencil, interview questions, portfolios, reviews, and performance assessments with manipulatives.  All assessments are matched to objectives so parents know exactly which objectives their child has learned.
