Summer Math 2016 - page 2

Over 35 Years of Summer School Success
Summer has proven to be
the ideal time for struggling
math students to develop
conceptual understanding
of essential concepts! The
Minneapolis School District
was one of the first to realize
these benefits. Over one-half
of the non-passing students
in Grades 2, 5 and 8 passed
at the end of summer school. Dallas followed and showed that a random
sample of students in grades 4 to 6 showed an 80% to 150% increase.
Since then hundreds of districts have found the benefits of engaging
students and teachers withmanipulative exploration to develop understanding
of essential concepts. Results from summer school 2015 in St. Paul, MN indicate
an 80 percent increase and 45% of the students who had failed the Pre-Test
did pass the Post-Test. (See back cover.)
